When you consider muscle cars, Dodge brand should immediately come to mind and their latest offering, the 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic, is solidly out in front of the pack.
We are just completing a week of ride and drive of a brand new, just from the factory, 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic in Redline 3-Coat Pearl exterior paint with a Dark Slate Interior and Leather Trimmed Seats, 20-inch X 8 inch R/T Classic Aluminum Wheels and Dual Black R/T Side Stripes.
Being of the generation which grew up with muscle cars, I can tell you that it has been a real treat and serious pleasure to run around this week in this Challenger R/T Classic. The 2013 Dodge Challenger Classic has all of the nostalgic feel and sound of the 70's with the engineering, safety and technology of today.
This red beauty was righteously equipped with a 5.7L HEMI V8 like it should be, delivering 375 horsepower @ 5,150 rpm with 410 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,300 rpm managed by the muscle car six-speed manual TR-6060 transmission with ZF-Sachs 250 MM Twin Disc Clutch. For this R/T Classic with 20-inch wheels, the final rear end 3.92 drive-ratio with the limited-slip differential delivering the power to the road.
I do not have a 0-60 mph time that I can officially quote you, but suffice it to say, the R/T Classic is very quick and solid off the line, accelerates with power through the gearing and gets you to the head of the pack as quick as you want to be.
Further, to top it off, it has all of the sound you would expect a muscle car to have with the image tuned dual exhaust system that rumbles boldly as you start it up and then pull away in a normal drive, but also roars as you add metal to the pedal when getting away from the line in a hurry.
Suffice it to say, my neighbors clearly heard me coming and going from my house all week.
All of the 2013 Challengers offer the muscle car enthusiast powerful and efficient power trains, iconic muscle car design, performance suspension for solid ride and have available various options and accessories that allow the consumer to "build" their own 2013 Challenger the way they want at a price point that meets their budget.
The test car we have been driving, the 2013 Challenger R/T Classic, is the top of the line model designed for the muscle car enthusiast who wants performance with even more nostalgic muscle-car cues and accessory equipment.
In addition to the previously described attributes of our 2013 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic, also included are “Challenger” fender badges in classic script, a heritage “R/T” grille badge, functional hood scoops with HEMI Badging and high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps.
